Aquaculture Training at Sea Point Facility, Cape Town, South Africa.

Sustainable aquaculture is the main focus for the Seychelles, practical skills and scientific knowledge is needed to run an aquaculture facility so that it can be well-managed, and provide and produce marine resources sustainably.

The special 2 week training was held at the Sea Point facility in Cape Town from the 9-21 September 2018 and organized by the Seychelles Fishing Authority (SFA), and the Department of Agriculture Forestry and Fisheries (DAFF) in association with SWIOFish3 on the practical side of aquaculture.

The trip consisted of a group of participants from SFA, SBS, Student and the Private Sector from Seychelles.

The main goal of the training was to instruct the trainees to the protocol of managing live fish facilities and dealing with emergencies. The training course also allowed the trainees to be exposed to some the scientific research projects on sea urchins, scallops, algal stock culture management and algal production and fish.

we got to learn how they feed and what do you feed them, there reproduction, gain information on how the animals and marine plants are grown in the facility and how the overall aquaculture facility works and advantages and disadvantages, the problems you have to deal with incase there is an emergency.

The overall experience was really great, we learned many things that could be beneficial not just for the development aquaculture sector in Seychelles but for other sectors and departments as well.
